DSLR Forums Club??

I belong to the local camera club, and I find it very helpful,, would never have handled the move from point n shoot to dslr without help from an older guy in the club, plus we have small outings to teach us diffrent things.

Jeff, I thought about it, but then I considered what I was learning online, especially here, and figured if I can do it all in my own time, in comfort, then why bother with a club? Your lucky in that you can have the mini meets in Sydney quite easily, which is basically all you will get from a club anyway.

Just my thoughts.

Camera clubs can be of enormous benefit to not only the newcomer to the art of photography, but the old timers as well, particularly if you can find a good one in your near vicinity. There is always something new to learn at any level and often the newbie, with no pre-set ideas, can come up with something to benefit the more experienced ones. Many years ago I was a member of a small, but very experienced club in Wyong, NSW and just watching & listening at the meetings was a gold mine for me then. i have recently resumed contact with the club scene at Noosa, Qld., & am once again enjoying the contact and am still learning new stuff.
Biggest advantage is the person whose brain you want to pick is standing right in front of you and you can talk to them.

Summary: Go for it! The DSLRnet is yet another goldmine that supplements this rich source of info superbly.

To me, the biggest benefit of belonging to a club (and I consider DSLRusers a club) is the motivation that is generated by the group. I know that if I didn't frequent this place I would not be motivated to take photos of eggs for example.

Hi, i belonged to a club years ago and wish I could find one in the N suburbs of Perth again. It is good to get out there and meet people and go to meetings and shows. Exchange ideas and techniques etc.
That is why this forum is like a home from home to many of us.

Any clubs in N Perth out there ? Let us know.

Yes I am part of the Essendon Camera club in Melb. I find it really nice, the only down side is that we only meet every 2 and 4th monday and not like an online club like this one

That said, I like the idea of printing my images and mounting them on Mat boards and then entering comps at the club.

I think local camera clubs vary quite a bit.

I was a member of the Wollongong club for a short time. Ocassionally they had a good guest speaker on a good subject but not often enough to keep me interested.

The competitions they have can help with the motivation.
