Nikkor 75-300mm f4.5 5.6 AF - Any good?

Postby Charlie Chalk on Sat Jan 08, 2005 11:39 am

Hi

I've been watching the above lens on ebay (see it here).

Can any one tell me if it's a good lens, better than the 70-300 G?

I don't have a lot to spend, but would like a long zoom, the 70-300 G is looking like the favourite at the mo, but if I can get a better lens second hand.....

Any advice appreciated

The 75-300 is supposedly slightly better than the current generation's 70-300 in both flavours. I believe the 70-210 which is 1 generation previous to the 75-300 had been better received, in terms of reviewed optical quality and AF speed - however lacking the bit of extra reach in the 210-300 range.

Looks really good CC.. i`m not much of an authority on such things... but at the right price i`m sure it would be worth having... 51 pound is only just over 120 AUD.. if so.. looks good to me 8)
Thanks, Trevor

No problems

You just have to go full manual.

I like it going back to the old way’s every now & then.
Makes it interesting have to work out the best settings for the image, digital makes it a lot easier to get it right by looking at the exposure strait away & seeing what adjustments you need to dial in.

Raydar - did you get the lens - I noticed it went off at $51!!! Great value. I was going to bid myself but thought I would leave it to you.
