Lighting stands

Can anyone suggest where I night be able to get a couple of budget priced or secondhand light stands in Sydney.

I want to do some off camera flash shooting but don't want to spend a lot of money.

What do you call "budget"?

New, they're well under $100 each and for around $150, you can buy a kit with a stand, brolly and slave.

I was thinking around $50-60. Is that reasonable.

I did not want to go for anything too heavy duty as they will be only used very occassionally and they just need to support SB800.

Is that your total budget or your per-stand one? And if the latter, for just the stand, or a full setup?

As a guide, that will probably come close to a single new stand. Check Vanbar's site.

But remember too that you need more than just a stand. A brolly (or some other form of diffuser) is a given, and you will need a way to mount the flash to the stand. All available (at a price) of course, which is why I mentioned the full kit that PillipB mentioned a few weeks ago. Seemed to be great value at around $150.

I bought a good air cushioned light stand off ebay (new) for $20.50!!!

i was looking recently at the $50-$70 lightstands as i am setting up a outdoor brolly rig with my flashes, but they were very flimsy! i can picture them getting blown over if the wind caught the umbrella. i know u can put weights on them but i wanted to keep it portable.

Unfortunately, you can't have both. Portable means light, which means they can be easily upset in poorer weather conditions.

It's all a matter of compromises.

i found some at fletchers for $100 each that i ordered, they were pretty sturdy. can't remember brand though will post when i get them tomorrow

Barton is a local supplier of stands and studio camera stands. They have been in business since I was a boy, and that is a long time ago, a lot of the larger pro stores do have second hand stands but you will have to ring around....... I have some barton stands for my studio flash heads and they must be around 30 years old.......

EDIT: ..... Barton well worth the money........and I am not gentle on stands so they are very well made.......
