I've been thinking about buying one of these for a while, but was always put off by the price...

But when someone volunteers to buy one for me as a pressie - who am I to argue...

Warning: if you buy one of these from the UK, it'll probably turn up with a UK plug on the charger... Might be better to investigate buying direct from the Korean manufacturer http://www.secu-line.com

I'll post something soon when I've used it in anger...

I anticipate 3 main uses:
- candid shots of people (pretending I'm playing with the settings of my camera rather than taking a serious shot)
- Tricky angles (Macros low to the ground or other hard to get at places)
- Above the crowd shots (so I can hold the camera above my head and still see what's going on in my viewfinder)...

It might also save my poor knees, allowing me to take shots from waist height rather than kneeling down...

When I receive my main birthday present - the D200 - I'll take some decent shots of the unit fitted to the Nikon viewfinder...

As I implied earlier... It's probably expensive for the use it will get, but it's a gadget nonetheless...
I'd be interested to see what the price would be for a bulk purchase from the manufacturer in Korea... It seems to be attracting a premium at the moment because it's the only gadget of its kind... In addition, there only seems to be one company selling it on the Net...

I sent the Korean company Seculine a query regarding a bulk purchase of the Zigview unit and they came back with surprisingly low prices.

The unit price depends on order quantity as follows.

ZIGVIEW (SC-V100)
- up to 19 units : 115 USD
- from 20 to 99 units : 99 USD
- from 100 to 299 units : 95 USD
- from 300 : 93 USD

Zigview-R (SC-V100R)
- up to 19 units : 134 USD
- from 20 to 49 units : 124 USD
- from 50 to 199 units : 114 USD
- from 200 : 109 USD

The conditions of price are:
- 1 year warranty
- FOB Korea
- T/T in advance or L/C at sight

Considering that the basic unit retails for 115 Pounds in the UK, these are not bad price...

If anybody is interested in organising a bulk purchase, I can supply further details... You'd probably have to run the purchases through a company and there may be GST to pay on import, but it might be worth considering...

I'd definitely like on and put up near the top of my wish list. It would be invaluable for candids.

Watch on Ebay. I picked one up a couple of weeks ago for A$120 including postage. I haven't had a lot of time to play with it as yet.

I have the cheaper version... The main difference is that the R version has the ability to link to a hardwired shutter control and can be programmed to fire the shutter when motion is detected or on an interval...

Hmmm... From the pics, it also looks like the second model has a shutter release connection ON the unit, whereas the first one doesn't... so I guess that's why the battery isn't expected to last as long.... (ETA: Ha, just noticed Leek had already answered that point... too slow.... )

Leek - on yours, is the internal battery replaceable? (I assume so, but just checking...)

Rae... It's not obviously replaceable, but you can open the unit up so I guess I'll find out when the battery's time is up...
