I was just forced to do my first wet clean on the d2x.
was sh*tting myself too due the the $diff etc
but
the operation was painless. it seemed to me that dustbunnies came off easier than on the d70, also it felt smoother somehow whilst running the pec pad over the sensor.

just wonder if any of the d2x users have noticed anything like what I am describing?
is it really easier to clean this type of sensor or am I on drugs??

these are 2 shots of the clear sky with the lens stopped down.
opened in photoshop and auto levels run.
still some minor stuff but the first one amazed me.

The D2X use the special Nikon Ultra Suave sensor which is much smoother than Knockabout sensor which is used in the D70.






I think in both cases you are cleaning the glass filter over the top, not the sensor. (PS I think they use Ultra Suave glass in the D2X as well)

I know that I am not actually doing the sensor
but it somehow felt different and the crud was just gone. usually takes me a few swabs to get the d70 clean.
maybe I just got lucky??

not sure what crud I had but pec pad came out black. almost like there was grease blobs one the sensor.
now I am going to claim that as the reason I have been taking dud shots lately

the LPF did it!!

I've had my D2X for over a year now and have never given it a wet clean, I find that the "Visible Dust" sensor brush works well and removes the majority of dust bunnies. I know that one day I will have to do it.......

I have had mine for almost a year now and managed to avoid it.
I have a rocket and brush which has got me out of trouble.
almost worth posting screenshots of before and after cos there sure was crud.

Maybe the low pas filter on the D2X is smoother than the one used on the D70??

To be honest, I had the D2x 17 months now and not bother to do a wet clean coz I found no dust bunnies on it.

I used Giotto Air Rocket often after each time outing.

me too birdy, but have a look at my before shot.
that is after the rocket job.
not sure what happened. maybe someone here is using the rocket to clean their ears out??

Squeeze the Giotto few times prior to blow its air into the chamber or on the CCD of the DSLR.

yep do that also.

especially so after reading the post where a member got fat on the rocket and then cleaned sensor.

just one of those things, I guess
