Hey all,

Has anyone tried a d200 with an 85mm 1.4? I'm curious to know if the focussing is considerably faster/more accurate than the d70s.

oh and is there a significant difference between a d200 with 85mm and a d2x with 85mm

James - I had the good fortune of using the 85mm 1.4 with my D200 a few weeks back - VERY fast. Not having used it on the D70 I can't really do a speed comparison but I was pretty impressed. Hope this helps.

great!! I've paid for a d200 and was reading about it today in other forums and someone questioned it's focus speed with screwdriver lenses - but you can't always believe what you read hey......

Focus is faster then a D70 and only more accurate because the viewfinder is larger, and there is less room for user error.

I didn't notice any difference between the D2x and D200, although someone with a stopwatch might find one? One annoying thing is the AF is noisy!

Having said all that, my opinion is that lenses are more important then bodies, and the 85mm f1.4 and anything F-mount is a killer combo.

The 85 f1.4D is sloooooowwwww on my fuji S2 ( actualy it is nikon F80 ), but it gave me very good picture with the 85mm.

hey

i have the 85mm f1.4 with the d2x
it's fast but not as fast as a AFS lens, but who cares fast enough to make you giddy for hours of fun

it's a bit mechanical in it's focus becuase it's an AF lens which uses the motor drive on the camera to focus

I've been using an 85 f/1.4 on my D200 for some time now, in fact, its the lens I leave on the body most of the time

It is very fast to autofocus, and I think a bit faster than when used on the D70, although the D70 gets very little use these days and I never did any timed tests.

It's a portrait lens. Why would you need autofocus anyway?

Yep, my kids aren't very good at manual focussing either, they'd definitely apreciate AF... :lol:
