Wireless repeating flash SB800?

Postby rokkstar on Wed Jul 19, 2006 8:11 pm

I've been trying this out for a while now and am getting frustrated with it.

Does anyone know whether it is possible to use the commander mode of the onboard flash (D200) to fire the repeating flash on a remote SB800?
I've done google searches and read the manuals a few times and am no nearer an answer.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Hi Matt,

I am pretty sure that you would need to have an SB-800, SB-600 or a SU-800 on the D200 to control a repeating flash on a remote SB-800. According to the Thom Hogan guide the D200's internal flash only sends out a TTL signal and you can only control TTL, M or AA on the remote flash.

I know that the SU-800 works as I just tried it with 2 remote SB-800's

If you find a way to do it, let me know.

Yeah, the onboard commander link cannot support wireless repeating flash.

You must have at least 2x SB800 (one mounted as commander). Or as Stuart said, a SU800 can do the trick.

Matt, I don't know what sort of distances you're talking here, but a SC28/29 off camera flash cable might be able to help you out?

If you're after a bit more distance (1.5m+) you could probably try a PC contact lead between the D200 and the SB800, although I'm not sure if this will work or not as I've never tried it for repeating flash.
