what software can I use to do something like this

There's a bunch of shareware bits and pieces that will do that, Keith. Plus I think every p&s digital camera ever released has included a CD of slideshow software that no one ever installs!

Can't vouch for any specific titles though unfortunately, apart from Apple's iPhoto, which has been able to do it for some time now (exporting to quicktime)

ProShow Gold - can't recommend it highly enough

Not sure if I had the patience to do something like that, but just about any slideshow software will let you do it. I use proshow gold for my slideshows, it woud be dead simple to achieve that result.

Another vote for ProShow Gold. it is great
