hi guys, one question, how much roughly do they cost in the shop? i think im gonna need one pretty soon for my brothers wedding.

oh yeah sorry, why sandisk? i have the 1GB and its all ive been using, so i guess truthworthy. or anyone have other suggestion?

The Sandisk 2GB will simply cost near AU$200+ inside the shops.

I have a variety of cards here, the Lexar (512MB 80x), iPQ (1GB 100x) and Ritek (2GB 80x).

From testing out those cards, I really see no difference when they are on camera. I use a D70, which may only write at few MB/sec, and a normal 80x speed card can handle it very well.

The 100x card I have performs better at transfering data to/from the USB card reader, but not a real big deal either.

I got the Ritek 2GB 80x card for AU$87 shipped to my door. Worth it? I will say much more than spending over $200 for same amount of memory which does not affect performance on the camera at much (if not at all).

If you are really running short on time, then the stores can be your source.  PS. Congrats to your bro's marriage.

I just got a 100x speed or something like that at 1.5Gig for $150 from a mainstream (read expensive) camera store (camera house).

Hope that helps (had to wangle them down from about $160)

I just purchased 4 x Lexar 2GB, 80x PLatinum II High Speed Series for Aus$115 inc GST through http://www.camerasdirect.com.au they come with a lifetime warranty. Sandisk 66x was my 2nd choice for about the same price $135 http://www.printercartridges.com.au/store/prod1608.htm.

Hi, I use sandisk ultra2 as they have a great reputation. At the moment you can get 2gb ultra3 from http://www.mittoni.com.au for $199. They are in Melbourne and lots of people I know use them, and I have not heard of any problems. At the moment the ultra3's also come with recovery software as well, so in my opinion they are well worth it.
I see lots of people talk about speed, and as far as I know, there is not much faster out there than ultra3's. However, I shoot a d70 and reliabilty is more important to me than speed. I think Sandisk are a quality manufacturer and I would rather pay more and be more confident that my card will not crap out on my when I need it.

I was interested in Quality first and speed second.

When I researched CF cards, I found that the actual company that invented it was Lexar, the technology was stolen by its then partner Toshiba, who went on to partner SanDisk and give them Lexars’ trade secrets; Lexar recently won it’s court battle for justice over this matter.

I read more about both Lexar and SanDisk at Ken Rockwells site, which also advised about speed; in a nutshell you are extremely unlikely to fill up the buffer within a Nikon D200 while it writes to the card, he was only able so after 28 shots in a row, and this was on slow 40x cards. So unless you are shooting sports at 5 frames per second on a 40x card then it is unlikely you are going to fill up your cameras buffer.

i got a sandisk for my gf cos she wanted it
i got myself a ted camera store one
its seem to work find.

The blue SanDisk cards are very slow, but the Ultra and Extreme cards are quite fast. They consistently pull in good speeds on camera speed tests.
Basically they're a solid and reliable brand. Unfortunately due to their success they've become the target of cheap fakes, so you need to be careful you're buying the real thing.
There are other good brands around of course, but it's hard to go wrong with SanDisk.

Sandisk has gone on massive price drop lately, from above posts, it costed ~$200 for the 2GB

Now you can get it for ~$50-60

Matter of time in the drop is just.... 8 months

Yeah I got my two (blue) 1Gb sandisk SD cards for $120 each when I bought my DSLR nearly two years ago. Picked up a 2Gb Ultra II a couple of weeks back for about $80 including delivery. More recently, Strathfield Car Radios had 2Gb Toshiba SDs for $45 each. Since I'd been using a Toshiba 1Gb card in my P&S without problems, ended up buying two of those as well....
