I Love to take pictures of motorsport.Obviously being far from the track extra reach is always good.

I'm trying to decided which one would suit me better

Nikon 70-200mm VR
Or the 80-400mmVR

I know the 70-200 has extreamly fast focus and is so very sharp

advice need please

Ben,

The 70-200 is the sharper and better performer of the two, but the 80-400 is no slouch.

I use the 80-400, and have done so at such slow moving motorsports events such as the F1 GP.

The important issue here is technique. Zone or trap focus techniques can be very useful, and if your technique is solid, then it simply comes down to how much reach you need.

Remember too that the 70-200 can be used with the 1.7 tc, thus giving you 340mm, and it's still going to be optically faster than the 80-400. That may be enough for some users, but for me it comes down to reach, hence my choice.

I was in the same position as you, shoot a lot of motorsport, more than anything else.

Considered the 80-400. Borrowed a friends 70-200 also.

After using the 70-200 for a full week, I had fallen in love, and will be buying one, and a tc17e to go along with it in a month or two...

Definitely try both of them though

Maybe I should just get both hahaha...........

I had a short play with both of them back then when I was in Sydney at a mini meet. but was so short I can't remember which was better.

Think I start saving and so it properly and get a 70-200VR eventually
