Canon EF 50mm f1.8 II Standard

Just purchased one, it arrived today and I have to say, why is it so cheap?

Really, what is the reason for it being so well priced compared to the other lenses in the Canon range?

I was thinking it must be manual focus or something, but no, here I am doing full auto focus (albeit a bit slow and noisy) but for studio work, it's just fabulous)...

So what IS wrong with it? :)

lol - same as the reason the nikon version is so cheap - there are so many of them made and the formula is down pat. If you look at a Nikon range, the 50 1.8 will stand out. The 50 1.4 costs twice+ as much.

That's because it's a "lense". If it was a proper lens, it would be a lot dearer.

But seriously, the 50mm f1.8 lens is a time honoured, well understood, and easy to make design, that's why they're cheap.

Cheers

Nothing wrong with it, it just have the cheap feeling because so light no USM ,and plastic mount for the mkII, still the best bang for buck lens.

Its a great lens . Bought mine on ebay for $130 .Wonderful value for money lens and plenty of bang for your buck . Speaking of bang this is one reason they are so cheap .They aren't built real tough .Not saying they should be dropped but this is what happens when they are.Not so fantastic plastic.

These lenses have a plastic bayonet mount?

Sounds like a good reason not to buy one :!:
