Ive been going thourgh my shots of the Rally of SA over the week and have found a couple of shots with a strange relfection, on the right hand side of the car there seems to be a reflection from the lights, does anyone know what would cause this?

Was using a d200 for the second day with a 70-200 plus a hoya 77mm uv filter, this was shot at 1/800th, iso200 and f9

Possibly internal reflection between the filter and the lens, or within the lens?
I see some of that in my night shots when I have a cheap filter on sometimes.

I thought this was just some flare from either the filter or the lens itself, bit if it only happened with this car and no others, perhaps....

"It's not you dear, it's the car" ;) ;) ;)

Got no idea why it would only be the one car, can understand it happening in the example above, but not exclusively this car - I would have thought it would be evident on others too! Is it possible this was the only car you caught at this angle, or this was the only one with this lighting configuration?

It's internal lens flare.

You will often see it when shooting directly or nearly so into a light source. The reason that you see it only on this shot is just because. :)

Looks like your filter all right - the spots have the characteristic greenish tinge.

It sems to be the inverted reflection of the lights on the other side of the car. Still, a couple of spots in one shot might be better than a front element covered in dust I guess!

Cheers

I have it happen occassionally - it's the light source. The more the lens is susceptible to flare... I've tried removing the filter if I really want the shot in that direction, even if it's only a UV filter and that helps. But like Gary says - just because. Try shooting lit chandeliers
