Usually i shoot this subject with my 85/60mm macro lens. But i thought i'd get a few shots with some different glass. Play a bit of lens bingo; pull some random glass out and see what comes up.

The first problem was it was low-ish indoor light and i couldn't be bothered pulling out a tripod. So handheld it was.

Close eyes and pull a lens i pull out of the bag was the 10.5mm fisheye. First challenge, 180 degree view on the diagonal corner. Basically i just stuck the lens into the tulip. The front of the petals was touching the lens, but at least the frame was filled. The downside was loss of light, so i either bump the ISO to 1600 or deep breath a 1/20sec shot. I take the 1/20sec and... well you can see for yourself...



Ok, i close my eyes and pull a 28mm f1.4 out of my bag. The good was the fast aperture in the low-ish light, but the bad is the minimum focus distance is terrible for close-ups. So drop the ISO to 400 and get a close as possible and...


Last shot at the title, dip the hand in the bag and pull out the 35-70mm f2.8. Gold, this one has a macro. May not have the 1:1 or 2:1 like a dedicated macro, but hopefully a 4:1 at 35mm will do the job. I can't remember any review that didn't see this macro other then a token add-on. Another option was to step back, pull the push-pull zoom to 70mm and get a token close up. But i stick with the token macro and...


And the winner is..... who cares. I had fun doing it.

geeze that fisheye is a flexible lens! I actually prefer the fisheye shot, with a bit of cropping (maybe as much as turning it into a portrait crop) - get rid of the lighter area on the left

The third is probably the technically better of these, but I still come back to the first as my favourite

It's amazing how may different looks can you get from the same flower using different lenses. All of them are very good Padey, but my favourite, and I believe is the most original, is the fist one.

#3 for me - probably because I have that lens but it does seem to have better colour (purple in the stamen) and bokeh

But all fantastic shots and great colour

The fisheye is a little soft for my taste. It would have been sharper if i had stuck it on a tripod.

Ha! I love the challenge and creativity of lens lotto, and the first and third are great results!

The stamen(?) in that third shot is just about jumping off the screen!

This should be a lense lust challenge!! Nice work I also like the 1st shot!!
