Charging for photos

Hi All

I have been asked to take photos for a football club. Each grade (colts, reserves and League) also the 3 fairest and best and the Board photos.
Can anyone tell me what I should be charging for this type of work.

Many Thanks
Peter

Peter, my answer is whatever you think it's worth. By this I mean, you need to examine why you are doing this. Are you trying to learn how to take this type of photo or are you trying to break into this market (in which case I might do it for free but with the understanding that once you're an expert you'll be charging). Or do you know how to do this type of photo and want to do this as a professional job (in which case you might look at $150/hour). The other thing to look at is the club itself and any relationship to you. If it's a low budget club and you have some association with the club you may want to do it for free. So, it all depends on why you're doing the job. It also depends on what the expectation for the prints is. If the club expects 20" X 30" framed photos, then that's going to cost you quite a few dollars and you'd probably want to recoup those costs. So you'd want to understand your expected costs so you could apply your profit margin (whatever it is).

Cheers
John

$12 for each A4 sized print. Print them yourself on an Epson R800.That gives about $9 profit. If you charge more then you will sell less. Sell the digital image on a CD foregoing copyright for $25.00. If you have outstanding images then they will buy. If you sell 10 prints and 4 digital files then that's not too bad for a few hours work. If they request prints larger than A% then you charge big bucks. $60 for an A3 and more for larger.

Peter,

Depends on what your costs are, what you're willing to accept, and what people are willing to pay. The latter will probably be somewhere between the former two. As a guide I charge $25 per A4, $40 per A3, $70 per A2. This is not at all on the expensive end of the scale, but you may wish to go lower if you have some connection to the club/people, or you think you will sell more etc.

The guy who takes our photos for the boys soccer club charges from memory, $20.00 for an group shot of the team and an individual, A4 sizes. Sorry, can't remember the individual prices for either the group or indi. This is packaged up in a black carbboard folder.

The same photographer then took the photos for my daughter's preschool, that was $30.00 for a group and several different sizes of an individual.

Thanks all for your comments. I am not affiliated as such with the club. Im the ground manager that works for the Assoc.
They saw me taking pics throughout the season and asked if I was interested in doing the team shots.

Once again many thanks
Peter
