Yikes. I can't decide between these three images as to which best fits the Fred Hollows theme of All things ordinary look extraordinary. So I need your help:

Which one #1, #2 or #3 (you can click for a larger version)?

Peter - what a dilemma!!!

I love the artsy nature of the gas flame but, for me, the boats have taken on an ethereal aspect that's hard to beat.

Yeah, mee too on the boats. There's just something that holds my eye there.

I love the boats, love the high contrast of white against black.

From the theme point of view, I really like the first, since the ocean is more "common place" than a marina.

#2 is a great shot, my favourite out of the three, however, it is just a photo of boats in a marina, IMO, nothing extraordinary. Please note, I'm not putting this photo down, it is a fantastic shot & I absolutely love it.

In line with the theme, ALL THINGS ORDINARY, LOOK EXTRAORDINARY you cannot go past #3 the flame, it looks like a man dancing, nothing ordinary about that.

I agree with myarhidia.

While all 3 are truly beautiful shots, I personally think #3 fits the theme best.
#1 is a bit hard to recognize as an ORDINARY object and #2 is just doesn't scream EXTRAORDINARY

Peter, what a dilemma. My personal preferences are #2 then #1 & then #3. In the context of the contest my thinking would probably be #3, #1 & #2.
However the dilemma is how do we expect the judges to pick their favourite. Maybe they will pick the boats as it is a truly superb shot or the pool as it is a nature shot which also looks superb. Or then a gain will they recognize the beauty of the dancing flame?

Too much for my humble opinion. I'd be tempted to enter all three.

I'm not sure that there's any judging of these images, beyond the judgement the purchasers might make.

Duh! Just read the announcement a bit further. In that case is it just a matter of which shot you would like to get accepted and have sold?
Think I'd go with the boats - I'm sure a lot of people would part with some cash for that shot. Cheers, Mick

Peter, I really like the second image. But, I've seen it many times, and each time I feel like the boats are going to float down to the right side of the photo. Horizon doesn't feel level to me.

Thank you all for your comments. It seems the boats at the marina is the general consensus and I've gone with that image. But I took Nick's advice and straightened the horizon.

I actually preferred the original shot you put up Peter, but this one is no slouch either. Great shot.

What resolution and sizing are you uploading it with? I know this has been covered somewhere but I can't locate the correct thread.

Matt - I originally scaled the image to be 16" X 10.5", but I'm in the middle of uploading a new version that's scaled up to be 32" x 21" @ 200 ppi resolution (images are to be 20 x 16 framed, this is twice what is needed since I figure that will give more detail - but see my tag line below ). I tried it with Genuine Fractals AND with just PSCS2 and decide PSCS2 was better & faster (I used Bicubic sharper resampling). I then changed the image to 8 bit colour and converted to sRGB with Perceptual rendering. The resultant jpeg was 7.1Mb (max upload size is

I've uploaded a 300dpi at 16cm x 25cm (approx) which is 6" x 10". Will they printed at 300dpi or reduced to say 200? Or should I resample and re-upload?

Can't understand why I'm having so much trouble with this printing malarky.

If they were being inkjet printed my understanding is printers are actually only around 240 dpi from my reading of this article, but I'm guessing they'll be done at a lab so I'm not certain of that.

All three are worthy Peter but I'd go with #3. Terrific!

I like the second best because of the glass reflection and the symmetric arrangement. Of course the other photos are also very good. I guess it all depends on how they are framed and where they end up being hung.
