D200 question

The answer has to be staring me in the face and I can't see it.
How do you have continuous frame numbering on the D200 so when you take the CF card out, the frame count doesn't re-start at no 1 again.
On my D70 it is quite simple to do, so I really can't see it being any more of a problem on the D200.
Obviously it would be impossible to catalogue photos if you finish up with 50 DSC0001 photos over a period of time.
All advice appreciated.

Tony, I don't have my D200 with me at the moment. But it's easy. It's in one of the menus. Also a bonus is that you can change the first 3 letters so they don't have to be DSC. So all photos I shot in August 2006 start with 608, all shot in September 2006 start with 609 etc instead of starting with DSC. You set this up in a menu near the place you set up not to go back to 1 when you format the card. Sorry, I can't be more helpful, but I know it's easy and just a matter of checking the menu settings out.
Cheers
John

Tony, you will find it in Custom setting #D6 - File Number Sequence.
If you select on, file numbering will continue from the last number used (even if CF card removed or formatted)
And as John mentioned, you can have any three characters instead of DSC if you wish. Go to Menu/Shooting Menu/File Naming. You could have your initials or anything else you like.

FYI, I've put a link up in the Category:Nikon under D200 to the downloadable PDF, which is fully searchable -

That is such a pain of a default, I just got back from OS with my new D200 and guess what, 6x DSC0001, 6x DSC0002 etc. etc.- took ages to re-name everything. First thing I did was re-set the sequencing.

Yes it is a ridiculous default. Should definitely be the other way around.
