Maxwell & Nikon Warranties

Postby Reschsmooth on Sun Sep 10, 2006 3:33 pm

I took my camera to the store at which I bought it as there were a couple of niggles with it. Anyway, they mentioned that it probably should be fixed under warranty however I should be aware that Maxwell maybe closing down.

Now, I don't want to spread rumours and speculation for the sake of it, particularly as it is unconfirmed and also I would have thought that this kind of info would be more widespread than just me hearing it.

However, the reason I post this is that the advice I was given was to hold off sending the camera in for a month or so until the new provider of the Nikon Australian warranties is sorted out. The last thing I would want would be my camera being stuck in the 'shop' pending a changeover of warranty providers.

As mentioned, this could be nothing more than a rumour and perhaps is common knowledge. Obviously people should make up their own mind on this and not act based on anything I have to say.

Cheers

P

Not quite right. The very strongly reliable rumour is that Maxwell will no longer be the Nikon distributor in Australia and that the announcement is iminent.

I heard something similar that another company will be handling Australian Nikon warrantries, repairs etc.

Hopefully this is good news and the service improves.

I'm crossing all available fingers and toes that the new warranty service provider will be Solectron Global Services... :D Although very unlikely, SGS have managed to meet the requirements of IBM's infamously excellent levels of service for their Thinkpads, Microsoft's Xbox360 consoles, IBM and Acer desktop and server systems and mobile phone market leader Nokia as well as very recently having been stringently audited and passed ISO9002 certification.

(hint hint to anyone from Nikon HQ which may be reading this).

Did I mention I love my work? Staff morale at SGS is typically very high... :)

I don't know if i'd like to be Maxwells.

1) Traditional market boundaries have shrunk. You'd be crazy to buy a maxwell lens from a local retailer. And if it wasn't for the local warranty of DSLRs, no one in the know would buy one locally either.

2) Our market is tiny when compared to Euro/US. So if you are Nikon HQ and you have a tiny reseller from Aus crying out for D200's and a company owned reseller in the US making the same call, you can see who draws the short straw.

Even if they do Wayne - it's highly unlikely they'll better the ones available here via HKSupplies & Poon.

Agreed Stubbsy :) Just wondering though, we can't do salary packaging through the site can we?
