Postby aussichef on Sat Sep 16, 2006 5:40 am

Hi all
I am getting the 70-200vr soon & was reading a thread on another forum ( hush my mouth lol )
And someone was talking about using a Kirk Strap to help take the weight of their lens when not taking a pic
So has anyone heard of these & if so are they available in aust
Just looking @ all the options for when i get this lens
Although having said that i will probably use my monopod once i get the right footings lol

Warren,

The issue here is the weight of the lens. The 70-200 VR is a big beastie, which also means that it's rather heavy.

Holding (or otherwise supporting) the camera, with any heavy lens mounted, by the camera body alone, can be problematic, and so you need to look at ways of relieving the stress on the body and lens-mount. That is why there's a mounting foot on the bigger lenses, and if you can use a neckstrap that mounts to the lens, rather than the body, in thee circumstances, then your equipment will be the better off for it.

Warren - Kirk products are only available on-line via USA.

I personally would not worry about the strap. Just attach the lens to your monopod and place the camera strap around your neck at all times. When walking collapse the monopod and place the camera and lens over your shoulder to take the weight, still with the camera strap around your neck for safety.

Hi Warren - I purchased the following items from 'Really Right Stuff' for my monpod setup:

Bogen/Manfrotto 3232 Swivel Tilt Head 3232 - US$18.00

B2-Pro : 60mm B2-Pro clamp with captive knob - US$72.00

Monopod Hardware Kit - US$2.00 (Contains 1 bolt, nut and spring washer - better system for securing B2-Pro plate to the Swivel Tilt Head)

And for the 70-200VR:

LCF-10 : Removeable lens collar foot for the Nikon AF-S VR 70-200mm/f2.8 G IF-ED lens - US$100

Plus Shipping per USPS.

Happy shopping.
