Appologies!

Edit by Stubbsy. Dan's comments below relate to discussions in THIS POST

I must say the only reason i got so defensive is because i am so passionate about my photography. If i offended anyone i am sorry for that. I have a bad habit of thinking every photo i ever take re writes the photography handbook! I was "over" enthused for the pics i had taken. One thing i will not say sorry for however is my use of "excessive" PP. I want to be different and have a different look and vibe to my photos. I have only been photographing people(models etc) for two months, and yes i have lots to learn. BUT for the record i DO NOT have an issue with someone not liking or criticising my images, i just didn’t think it was tactfully done yesterday by gstark and son!

Again unreserved apologies. I will still not post here for a while as i don’t think anyone would really comment now anyhow. I will learn and critique others photos and hopefully gain something that way!

It is not a take on my character either, maybe I was just a little brittle yesterday. I still sometimes have a hard time dealing with my “newly” chosen career path and negative criticism makes my doubt MY own ability, thats NOT good.

Today for instance I canceled my organized shoot, I just wasn’t up to it and doubted my ability after yesturdays comments (not blaming anyone either before i get flamed again).

I have to go away and dream it all up again!!

Dan,

Please bare in mind that in the reality world, so does the artistic (photography), everybody sees things differently, we behave differently and react differently. Thats why we human have emotions. You may see your photographs are to the very best to your liking, and whilst other may see some differences. Regarding the cirtiques and all other things going on, if you decide not to post any other photos here to be reviewed/criticised/praised, then its all up to you to do so. We have no will or right to stop you from doin this. If you believe that you will learn better on your own on composing your photographs, then this is your own way and we have no more to comment on.

Away from the critiques and any other things. This post should be posted under another section, say general discussion. Dont worry about this at the moment, the moderators/admin will take care of this if necessary.

Dan, I did not comment yesterday - but did read the whole thread. It takes a lot, I imagine, for you to apologise. I'm glad you did.

I joined the forum and started to contribute mainly to find out more about photography and be a better "happy snapper" than I am.

I am gleaning a little more info about photography at each meet I attend - hopefully I get an answer at each meet that will assist me as I go along - and that is why I participate.

So join us all in the search for a better shot and a better image. Wishing you many great shots - all the best in your endeavours. Cheers, Mick :) :)

Several points.

First. Critiques which are "tactful" are worthless. Honest feedback is invaluable. When you ask for comments, you must accept them. You can disagree, but they are not personal attacks. We do not do that here.

Second. You have already had two Pictures of the Week. One of which was selected by Leigh (NNNNsic).

Third. You were not flamed. Re-read the thread. Flaming is not tolerated here.

Fourth. Give things a bit of time. The nature of a forum is that threads develop over a day or two or longer.

Fifth. Relax and enjoy. It is OK to be passionate about your photography, but it is important to maintain perspective.

Finally, keep posting your shots.

Dan.

I keep quiet through yesterdays epic thread however I'm glad to see things have settle down and that some more meaningful dialogue is taking place. As many have said this is a good forum with lots of good people with lots of experience. It would be a shame for you not to be part of that.

From my point of view and having worked with you I found that you are a young enthusiastic photographer with a lot of good ideas. Experience take time and I'm sure with time your will grow into a good photograper.

For the time being just relax and learn your craft.

I would also like to see a couple more of your shots from Saturday because from what I saw there should be a lot more good shots in your camera than just the couple you have already shown.

I for one am glad this was a case of PP rather than camera/photographer problems. I initially misinterpreted how these shots were presented, imagining that there was something wrong with some of them. This is perhaps similar to the big argument before (a year ago?) about deliberately OOF shots.

For me, personally, I believe the b&w shots came across best of all the shots. At the end of the day, all that matters is what the customer wants.

I'm glad that you did send in your post Dan and would rather that you continue to contribute. I for one am conditioned to expect a certain format/style of photograph in weddings, and I think there's a benefit in pushing the boundaries - showing us that there's more than one way to shoot these photos.

Finally someone who got what i was trying to do. The last paragraph was exactly what I was trying to achieve “out of the norm” looking pics. Those pics were not going to the client, they were for me to play with. I just remembered that my initial post was preceded by the words "different take" i do believe? Anyhow water under the bridge now. Thank you!

Dan

I missed all of this last night, but have since read the post in question. I've also taken the liberty of editing your first post here to link to the related thread and I've moved this to the General Discussion area.

I think you overreacted last night, but being passionate about your work can sometimes lead to that. I also figured that would be the last we'd see of you and both you and the forum here would be the poorer for that. It's refreshing and admirable to see you have come back and made this post and I have a much higher opinion of you for that. Something most of us have tremendous difficulties with is apologising and to come back and to do so is to be applauded.

Finally, regarding this comment:
I will still not post here for a while as i don’t think anyone would really comment now anyhow

DO NOT do that. We are a big family here. Like all families we have our disagreements, but also like family we forgive when people say sorry. We WANT to see your pics. Some of us will like you work all of the time, some will never like it and the bulk will fall in between. As has been said several times - by posting your work and receiving critiques your skills will flourish and your work will grow in quality.

I also think it would be valuable to reinstate your image links in the original post as many, like I, will not have seen the work that started this.

Cheers

It takes courage to apologise.

There is no point in rehashing yesterday's thread here, but I do have a further couple of points of advice:

- you are entitled to be as passionate as you wish about your photography.
- anytime you ask for critiques be prepared for the fact that we all see with different eyes. People are also entitled to their own opinion of your art.
- you don't have to accept all criticism. Picasso got lots of criticism, but persisted with what he believed in.
- you do however (at least on this forum) have to deal with criticism without resorting to personal attacks on those who provide it. It will not be tolerated here.

Dan, missed the hoopla but it takes guts to apologise and come back. Glad you are here :D
