D70 and Macs

Postby Mark T on Tue Jan 18, 2005 4:49 pm

My new Nikon D70 arrives later this week and I am going to introduce it to my iMac G5 and PowerBook.

I would like to be a little prepared, so I thought I would try to get a few questions answered before it arrives:

1. Will Photoshop v7 be able to import the D70's NEF files or should I consider upgrading to Photoshop CS (or using the Nikon software)?

2. Will I be able to control the D70 from my iMac or PowerBook (take photos and have them appear on the iMac) with the Nikon software?

3. Is there any software available so that I can use the Mac to carry out time lapse photography?

4. I believe the firmware in the D70 is upgradable. Can this be performed using a Mac?

Thanks for any assistance.

1/ PS7 able to import NEF but you have to download new plug-ins from Adobe site. Upgrade to PSCS if you can but it's not critical!
2/ Yes you can control D70 with NC
3/ NC
4 Yes, you can

I tried to use photoshop cs (on a g5 running 10.3.7) to open NEF files today and found that you still need the nikon plug in to open them.

I am going to get the plug in from my pc and try it tomorrow. I will let you know whether it works.

Whatever PS or PSCS you have to get the plug-ins to work with NEF.

I use this website for firmware downloads, and also comes with set by step instructions for Windows and Mac:

We are also having a Mini Meeting in the Adelaide Botanic Gardens - Summer House at 11am on Sunday 6 Feb. 2005 and you are most welcome to attend.

So far we have Marvin, digitor and myself attending. It is anticipated lunch at the Exeter Hotel in Rundle Street after. This map is courtesy of digitor:
