SPAM-where did they get my details

This evening I opened my email and 7 PORN/SPAM posts appeared. This is the first time in ten years that I have received this junk. I have not visited any sites of questionable content....so where did they get my address from?... and did any other forum members get SPAM today?
The sickos who post this crap are the lowest of the low.

Most heavy spammers use bots that trawl the internet seeking email addresses. It's usually quite difficult to locate where the leak has occurred unless you have a different email address for every site you have to register for.

Some email service providers now allow a group of alias addresses for this purpose. Each address is slightly different but forwards mail to the one inbox. By using different addresses on different sites, then you can locate the vulnerable site. Yahoo is one provider that will do this.

I hate spam, and I now use Spamfighter to eliminate spam before I can open it. You can get it free for a month, and then a quite low annual fee if you continue with it. My "spam rage" has decreased markedly since I started using it.

Its almost unavoidable for spam to hit your email these days.

Some spam bugs crawl through the net to find email addresses, some just grab off subscriptions from other websites, some just generate random address and start sending emails.

Setup a spam filter from your email provider and keep an eye of the spam for attachments, they're mostly viruses/trojan that dwell deep inside your computer and keep on a look for more of your identity.

Some spam even just guesses addresses... and then when they don't get a "User doesn't exist" error message back then they know that they have a legit account. Sucks very much...
