Oooooh, mac questions. I know for pc there is a plugin to view nef in the file browser or preview mode, not sure about mac though

here is a program like ACDSee for batch processing, viewing, etc (tis free)

For those not aware, here are some good registry changes for viewing, changing view size, etc for windows and Nef files.

MORE MAC STUFF I FOUND -

this appears to be the only method so far for a mac, can't really help since I haven't used a mac for years. A

Find the info towards the bottom of the page

It appears that the NEF format is not native to OS X and it needs a 3rd party converter to read it. I don't know if there is a simple way to viw your pics other than shoot raw+jpg and hen view the jpg next to the nef (they will have the same name)

Sorry I can't help more

dciscool, I am on a PC.

The NEFs are showing up in the browser, so clearly they are supposed to.

If you have the plugin from Adobe for nefs and you can view them other than in the browser, it is a bit of a mystery. Maybe one of our mac users can add more....

I use Mac - when you say cannot view in the browser do you mean the file browser within Photoshop? If this is what you mean what version of PS are you using? I have both 7 and CS and both show NEF.

If you mean a web browser - why would you want to!

thanks for the responses.
I found out that the file browser in photoshop needed to refresh / reload thumbnails, and so i deleted the cache , and wham - the nef files work in the file browser.
So the adobe RAW plugin works fine
