Here it is short and sweet. While its on ok lens with a big range, nearly everyone that has bought it has, gone on to upgrade to another lens or lens and TC combination. From memory the lens they have moved on to would be the 200-400 or the 70-200 with TC.
With a range like that the optics are going to suffer, I guess working backwards the first question to ask, is what do you want to shoot with the Lens, what is its main purpose ?

Are we talking about 50-150 or 50-500?

The lens is probably too new to get anyone's opinion about it. The only samples on the net I think is this one japanese guy in pbase. I dont think anyone else outside Japan has laid their hands on it.
Here it is

If you're into portraiture work, I imagine you'll get quite a few people recommending you look at prime lenses (50 1.4 or 85 1.4).
You'll also need to remember the "crop factor" for dSLR's (depending on which brand you go for - though there's not much of a difference) as this will also affect the field-of-view you will get out of your lenses.

Yes, the 50-150 range seem to be more for event photog where you cant get too close and need an extra stop in range/speed.
For dedicated portraiture, where you have all the time and patience/light you want to, a prime lens is up for a call
How much is th 50-150/2.8 by the way?

I searched up for the Sigma 50-150mm f/2.8, on BHPhotovideo is USD$679, but other price sites have shown $640.
Since you are shooting portraits, have you thought about perhaps 50 f/1.4, 85 f/1.8 (the f/1.2L $$), 135 f/2L (or the Nikon equivalents). Definitely all up will cost more than USD$640, but faster and uh.., and I can't comment on the quality of the 50-150 though.

When ordering things from overseas, always add the import tax in your budget line, you may or may not get taxed when it is imported into Australia. Its all up to your luck I guess.
