Hello,
I have a question, someone maybe able to answer for me.
I am looking at purchasing a Sigma 28-70 / 2.8 EX
He tells me it is 2.8 all the way through.
The man in the shop, has told me it is a brilliant lens,
But I am not sure wether he is just trying to sell me something.

Thank-you in advance

I havent tried this lens, but I did a short test with the Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 EX

The lens itself is amazingly big, not as the Nikon 28-70 but still very big and heavy glass. Feels solid and optic is quite good except some occasions at wide open apertures. Short tests results showed up sharpness from f/4 down to f/5.6, superb at f/6.3 - f/8 and then slows back down again.
Its not a HSM lens, but focus is good and quick in acceptable lighting conditions.

I've heard that the 24-70 performs better than the 28-70 version. But I cant prove this yet havent used the 28-70.

only issue i have with the 24-70 (which others may not) is the 82mm filter size :?

Bigfoot, I'd be tempted to go for the 24-70 as it'll give you an extra 4mm, which after conversion is 6mm. Sometimes that 6mm can make a difference esp when your back is against the wall :)

I've got a 24-70mm F/2.8.

It's a great big peice of glass, and in my opinion, produces sharp images at all focal lengths:

This was taken at 24mm-

This was taken pretty close to 70mm-

I think it's a top lens. I recommend it anyway.

Thanks for your replies.

Great Pics,
If I can take pictures like that with that lens I would be very happy!

I was offered the 28-70 for $400 Brand new,
I assume this is a good price,
When I priced the 24-70 it was nearly double the price...

I do have a 18 -55 for the closer shots,
What do you think !
Is the 28-70 worth buying?

I got my 24-70 from DD photographics in North Sydney for $599. I think you may be able to get it even cheaper than that if you shop around.

You may want to read these and decide yourself:

28-70/2.8

24-70/2.8
