And I paid ....

I just had a look at one of the Yahoo newslinks from our front page. The story related to the ever-decreasing prices of digital cameras.

Bearing in mind one of the morefrequent questions we see regarding the need to use the optical viewfinder on our DSLRs, I found this quote - referring to sub-$100 cameras - rather amusing.

Most sub-$100 cameras lack an LCD, too, forcing you to rely on an optical or electronic viewfinder to frame shots.

While the D70 doesn't lack an LCD, it certainly forces you to rely upon the optical viewfinder to frame shots.

Damn! I feel as though I've been ripped off!

:)

Mine doesn't take black and white shots!... I wonder if there's a black and white sensor I can just drop in and wind up.

This sucks!

G'day,
I've never understood the desire to try and compose shots holding the camera at arms length, looking at an LCD. My previous camera (Fuji S7000) offered both and I never used the LCD to compose a shot, always using the viewfinder... Also helped me steady the camera too when held aginst yer noggin'.

It always cracks me up watching the "little silver thing" brigade holding their P&S cams at arms length working out which way they need to turn the camera compared to the change in the image on the LCD...

Cheers,
Mudder

This is actually a technique that requires learning and a lot of practice.

Hold the camera so that your left hand covers the front of the lens, but in such a way so that your fingers cover the opening at the top, and at the bottom, leaving a slit through the middle.

It takes some practice to get right, but the results can be amazing!

Where many tourist attractions once held 100 people at once now only fit about 30 because of the need for armspace.

Even more impressive if you're endowed with large fingers and cover part of the powerful built-in flash at the same time.:!:
