Advice on harbour viewpointsOK, I've threatened my girlfriend enough with the idea of getting up nice and early for a harbour sunrise and she keeps saying "yea yeah matt....go back to sleep!!!"
So that's it. I'm going out this Sunday morning. The question is, where are the sweet spots that give fantastic views? I know of Maquaries point to get the OH and bridge in the same shot. THis also gives a nice view of the skyline. But what about Dawes point. I;ve not been there, is that a nice view? Also, I don't know much about the North shore. First stop is Milsons point, and I can imagine that the view of the whole of the harbour is stunning. What I'm basically after is a few pointers in the right direction. I love exploring for new views but need that helping hand to a lost brit Cheers guys Matt
Re: Advice on harbour viewpoints
But it's looking towards the west, which, for capturing a sunrise, might present a minor problem. Dawes Point is directly under the coathanger; great for an OH shot, but might present an issue if you also want the coathanger. Blues Point might be a better angle for you; it's basically the western equivalent of Mrs MacQ's chair. The other question you need to ask is how far to the north does the sun rise. IOW, where, in relation to your viewpoint, will the sun be as it comes up. Of this I have no knowledge ... Anyone ? g.

Re: Advice on harbour viewpoints
Bloody good point. All bloody good points. Hmm, ok, so i need to rethink this one clearly. Blues point sounds good though, i;ll check that out. I know that in Practical Photography magazine in the UK they were advertising a little device which told you where the sun would rise and set. I might try and lay my hands on it here. Does anyone have any other sunrise/sunset spots that a newbie has to check out? CHeers Matt
