Shooting in RAW

Postby nigels on Fri Jan 21, 2005 10:47 am

Hi folks,

Just a quick and simple question to clear my own mind.

When shooting in RAW format does that negate or neutralise all other settings in the camera, with the exception perhaps of aperture and shutter speed.

Thanks

Nigel,

Not exactly.

The settings you have set are applied to the image as it is stored at the time of making the exposure, and some, like aperture and shutter speed, can't be undone.

But many others are stored as some form of "flag" with the image, and the value of that flag (wb, sharpening level, curve, etc) can be changed from within NCE.

So while they're not actually negated, they might be considered to be negatable.

Nigels - I concur with Gary on this matter.

I have found an interesting article on D70 RAW at:

I came across this helpful article on RAW while looking at my other interest; scuba diving (go figure??). Apologies if its already been posted but I found it quite helpful.
