Hi guys
Have a look here from a fellow member of AardvarkTravel forum- Johan
of his images from his recent trip to Sth.Africa. Simply stunning IMHO
Taken with a D200, 10.5, 18-200 f/2.8 & 200-400 VR.

Mostly the 200-400 VR for the wildlife shots.
I can't quite justify the extra K's for the 200-400 beast, I have however ordered the 300 VR , for Zambia next Sept.

Marc, from all reports you will love the 300VR Great choice I would think as it will be useful back here and great over there teamed with a 1.4 or 1.7 TC. I am envious of your present images, little alone the ones you will get next September

Just saw you have the 1.7TC, what a great combo I love mine on my 300/4, can only imagine on the 2.8

Actually Glen I'll probably get the 1.4 tc as well and use it primarily on the
300, giving me a 420 f/4
Enough for wildlife and some birding (630 with 1.5X dig crop)

I just realized what I had put down, I meant of course the 80-200 f/2.8.

Put me down for a 18-200 2.8 as well, I think there is a few of us who want one I have seen some 300 + 1.4 images on the net, they look excellent quality

some great photos there.

Warning to others: it is a big download at the link above, about 50+ photos so a few meg downloads, worth it, but even on an Australian broadband, it takes a while.

Marc, that will be a great combo with the 300 and TC. Just a suggestion, at times it will be too much lens sometimes the animals are so close 100mm is too much!! Get a secondhad D70 to take with you as a second body and have the 70-200 on there, you can always sell it when you get back (the d70 that is ). The environment is very dusty when on the safari so you don't want to be changing lenses.

Just the thread I wanted to see. I'm off to South Africa and Kruger National Park in a couple of weeks.

If I can bring back pix like some of these I'll be a happy chappie!

Am very aware of the conditions over there, especially that time of the year,
basically HOT & DUSTY.
This will be our 4th safari in Africa.
I will be doing just as you suggest and begging, borrowing or stealing a D70
or similiar and hope to have the 17-55 on the D70 body and the 300VR+1.4 / 70-200VR on the D2Hs.

I have only one body, the D70. I am about to buy a D200, but I think I'll wait until I get back because I don't really have the time to get on top of it before I leave.

Lenses: 12-24 DX, 18-70 kit lens, 80-400 VR; possibly 50mm f1.4 too. SB-800.

My niece is getting married at a vineyard in Capetown, so I want to be able to take pix there as well as in Kruger.

The Lilac Breasted Roller and Lion running towards the camera are real stand-outs. Very good stuff!

I'm all excited about my 4th trip in about a month's time - will be spending a lot of time in the Okavango Delta and surrounding areas. First time with the D200 as well which should add an extra element of excitement!

The South African Rand is quite low at the moment (5.76598: $1 Aus) which is a bonus for us travellers! We were there in April this year and it was around 4.5!

Hey Marc..

Not doing Kwando. I've spent a bit of time in Chobe as my partner's Oupa used to own (and built!) King's Den Lodge on the Chobe River. Also spent some time on another trip at the Chobe Game Lodge when we took my folks along for the adventure of their lifetime's!!

Our itinerary for this trip goes something like this:

Gabs > Maun > Gweta > Kasane > Katima Malilo (Namibia) > Ngepi > Shakawe (back in Botswana!) > Ghanzi > Jwaneng (her Mum works at one of the Debswana diamond mine school's there) - then back to South Africa for the rest of the trip and to visit the rest of her family!
