hey there,

looking through my viewfinder, i can see about 5 specs of dust/dirt around the area.

i can see them without a lens attached, so it's a camera thing.

the sensor looks very clean, and can't see anything on it.

where else could the dirt be hiding??

If you can see the dirt through the viewfinder, it simply cannot be on your sensor. It's a physical impossibility.

I'd remove the lens and look through the front of the camera, up into the groundglass section. That's where it's likely to be hiding.

If it bothers you, use something like a Giotto rocket to blow it clean. Otherwise, don't worry about it; it won't affect any images that you make.

it seems so obvious now that you mention that it can't be the sensor...

I have had this problem and whilst some people say "live with it", I am one of those people that the dirt will eat away at my soul the longer it is in the viewfinder :evil:

If it is in the viewfinder then it is a fairly easy task to remove it although be careful as some people have done some considerable damage having a go!!!

Oh geez, I have yet to fix my broken F80 :shock:

Dont play with the focusing screen unless you want to risk something... like I did...

Well, technically, if the shutter was stuck open, and something was seriously wrong with the mirror like it was on back to front or something, and you could see in the dark or had a big hole in the side of the camera to let the light in so you could see the sensor, then you might... But if that were the case, I don't think you would be worrying about a few dust spots...
