I'm finally getting around to sorting out some insurance for my gear.

Our home contents are insured with NRMA.

With NRMA I can add cover for portable items for theft and accidental damage.

Their prices are:

$120/yr for $5,000

$190/yr for $10,000

Does that sound reasonable?

Sounds alright but is it new for old cover, or market value ?

I'm fairly sure it's new for old. Our standard contents is, so I assume it would be the same.

I've got a similar setup through AAMI. Seems easy enough.

Not just yet.

I knocked my D70 + 105 off my tripod a few months ago. That was enough to make me look into the insurance.

i tried to put my 28-70 on my insurance list but the company ( alliance )said i couldnt as their policy only covers camera/lenses up to $25,000 so i took the 70-200vr off the list as i dont use it much, and i pay $65.00 a month on top of my house/car insurance for this insurance, but it gives me peace of mind that they are covered ( the 70-200vr is still covered in my home not when i take it outside the home ) they suggested i get a bussiness insurance which i looked into ... they wanted $100 a month to cover my list so i didnt persue it ( mind you i didnt have a bussiness number then )

all my camera stuff was stolen last night from my home, i believe according to NRMA its all covered because it wasnt out of the home. Is this correct?

my 30D and lenses, cards, filters,readers

looking at a replacement now of a 5D

She said theres no limit to items claimed in your home for things like cameras so long as its below the insured value so I hope I can get it all back!

30D, 24-70 F2.8, 10-20 F4.6, few memory cards, bag, reader, CPL and then theres the laptop, gold braclet and necklace yada yada!

Keep a look out for a bloke that smells like you offering a cheap camera in pubs? Plus it is half used and has your dna on the bottle. Unsaleable so he would have to keep it, likely item to prove a case.
