My camera stolen! Watch out please on the Sydney used market

Postby Kris on Thu Nov 16, 2006 1:53 pm

Yep, some low life scum in the Randwick area robbed our place last night.

It was the third time in our block, on the same day! All windows were closed, shutters closed and no one heard a thing. Around 4.30-5pm yesterday afternoon. The owner of the block is now going to do something or we are moving out

items stolen are:

Canon 30D
Sigma 24-70 F2.8
HP pavillion laptop with DVD burner & widescreen
gold mens braclet and necklace
my passport which was inside the camera bag
lowepro black camera back pack with laptop slot

If anyone sees any of this come up on the used market anywhere in Sydney could you please let me know? It would be great to have your help to catch this piece of shit

Thanks guys!

I'm very sorry to hear this

I hope the police can do at least something for this.

Have you written down the serial numbers of your gears before somewhere else? Maybe providing a serial number for the 'black list' may be little helpful.

Unforunately I did not record the serial number! As helpful as the police have been they are simply too stretched for resources on this kind of thing.

The best bet is forum power! Its a pretty small market so MAYBE something may turn up and we can nail this guy once and for all.

Without serial numbers it is very hard to track down or confirm it is theft item or not. All camera/lenses look same way as opposed to some jewllery which has so many different shapes. :(

But I will keep an eye around the used market for those two items now... Is your 30D equiped with a vertical grip?? That may be easier to identify... and did you have the battery door inside the grip? which they can separate it if you did... (if they ever know how to)

How did they get into the unit?

Maybe old tenants which have the keys? or your neighbors?

Always change your lock barrels when you are at a new place.

Through a locked window, its a older type of place where they can jiggle it and get in. We've requested the owner install bars on the windows and a dead lock on the door.

Kris have a look at your old paperwork, the Nikon warranty cards have the serial number on them, possibly Canon is the same? HP may be the same.

I will keep smelling everyone for the D&G cologne.

Oh my goodness!
That is one of my worst fears!
I hope you manage to recover it (though I think it may be difficult) and the people should be CAUGHT! We'll keep a lookout on ebay!
I hope all the best for you!
