D70 Repairer?

Some of you may remember my little accident I had a while ago with my D70 which resulted in the lens mount being half pulled off.

I thought I had done a smooth self repair job but have noticed recently that I have difficulty auto focussing to infinity.

The problem seems much more noticable at wide angles. ie. most noticable @ 18mm on my 18-70 where has trouble focussing on anything more than about 30m away.

It is less noticable with my 105mm and virtually non existant with my 70-200 + TC.

Q1. Does this sound like a lens mount problem or something else?

Q2. Who should I get to quote for repairs? Nikon Au or Poraday or someone else?

Sounds like a misalignment issue with the DIY fixed mount.

Both will do them, either one closer to you I'd say. But Im not sure how much they are going to charge you, it may be somewhere near a used D70 if they are replacing the whole unit, hope thats not the case.

When I had dropped my D70s, I sent it in to Poraday for repairs/quote. I have found them to be very helpful.

Biggest problem you will find is the availability of spare parts. Depending what they need to replace, it can take days to weeks. Not their fault I would think, just Nikon takes forever for the parts.

Eventually my insurance decided to replace the camera because it was going to take too long to repair.

Good luck,

André
