Sandisk Extreme III vs IV in camera write speed comparison?

Has anyone here done any in camera comparisons between Sandisk Extreme III and IV cards? I haven't been able to find any comparisons online, apart from with card readers, where the IVs seem a lot faster, with the right reader. That isn't an issue for me, I'm more interested in the write speed, and the IV would have to be a lot faster than the III to justify the extra cost.
thanks, Gordon

Hi Gordon,
I have been using the 4gig Extreme IV for a while now and I have not noticed much difference in the write speed between it and the Extreme III. I can vouch for the fact that Extreme IV is a lot faster on the download when used with the new CF FireWire card reader from Sandisk. Download speed is about 2gig a minute which does make a difference if your in a hurry to get images processed for a client or deadline.
The Extreme III and IV are fast enough in the D200 for what I do however I think in buying new cards I will be going for another Extreme IV. I think they are worth it. Buy once, buy right!

Try Rob Galbraith's CF/SD comparison table

Above is the one for the D200.
hope that helps,

Interesting comparison on that page Ken, seems there is bugger all difference in write speed for the D200, which is where I plan to use it. I am using a 2GB Extreme III currently, but have the need for more capacity sometimes so am looking at getting an 8GB card.
Given that the III can be bought for ~half the price of a IV, its no contest really. I almost always load into NC directly from the CF card (my laptop has a built in card reader) when processing images, and the read speed is not holding things up, so theres no real advantage in going for the IV.
I have my ebay bid in

Hi again Gordon,
The way prices are going at the moment it is difficult to go too far wrong. It was not that long ago that memory used to cost about a dollar a megabyte! Happy eBaying!

Thats true Ants, I want the extra capacity sooner rather than later, and I can have twice as much of III for my $$, so III it is
It really wasn't so long ago that I paid well over $200 for a 256MB CF and now its sitting in my camera bag unused... only carried around in case of a dire memory emergency!
fake Sandisk 8GB CF

My long awaited Sandisk 8GB Extreme III CF arrived and the news is not good. Despite the seller in Sydney's assurances that it was a genuine Sandisk CF, I am fairly sure that its a fake. It seems to have the full capacity: 8117190565 bytes according to its Properties when connected to my laptop's CF slot, but the words and other marks on the front and back of the card seem to closely match those found on other fake cards according to:
http://reviews.ebay.com.au/FAKE-SanDisk ... 0001449653
The write speed is a lot slower than my 2GB CF which I believe is genuine:
90 sec to save 21 Raw images (blank images of the inside of the lens cap) on the suspect 8GB vs 48 sec to save 22 on the genuine 2GB. 21 images vs 22 because the 2GB card took one extra image at Continuous High rate before the buffer was full.
So, tomorrow I'll call the SanDisk counterfeit hotline 1800 number and talk to them to confirm it, then ask for my money back from the seller and report the fraud to ebay... although maybe I'll wait until I get my $$ back before doing that.

Gordon,
Sorry to hear that you may have been scammed. Please keep us informed of how this ends up, and also, if you feel so inclined, please feel free to let us know from whom you purchased this card, so that others here will know to execise extra caution when/if they choose to purchase from this vendor.

Sandisk have just confirmed that it is a fake card. I bought it form Andy9630_5, who has a 99.5% positive feedback. I looked through a lot of his feedback before buying and didn't see anyone complaining of fake cards. That doesn't mean he hasn't sold any, just that the buyers may not have recognised them.
I'll contact him directly first, and ask for a full refund including postage and my return postage. If he wont do that I'll report him to ebay and he will never be allowed to trade there again.. and I'll probably kiss my $267 goodbye.

Gordon,
Did you pay using a credit card?
If so, and if he doesn't quickly refund your full payment, also take it up with your CC company and have them deny payment to the trader.
Use your email to him, and whatever failures to come to the party that he might make you endure, as the basis of your complaint to your CC provider.

Unfortunately no Gary, as I did a direct deposit into his account, so no chance to get the money back unless he refunds it. I guess I should be covered by ebay's buyer protection policies, but that may involve a $25 fee, or maybe they can make him refund it under threat of torture

No reply from the seller for over 2 days now, so its time to start the ebay "Item Not Received or Significantly Not as Described process" which I will send off tonight or tomorrow, and lets see if that jerks Andy into action!
He seems to have gone quiet with no items for sale at the moment.... maybe he is worried about fraud charges? Sandisk were certainly keen to discover who I bought it from.
