Hi everyone, well season greetings to you all, hope you have a safe and enjoyable christmas with you`re loved ones.
Anyhow, last week I was getting some prints framed at a little shop in Perth and the bloke doing the framing showed me a printer he had just purchased, it measured something like 2.5 metres wide and about 1.5 high. He had some fantastic shots pronted out onto canvas that were about 1.5x1.5 metres and looked quite sharp. This printer of his also does great panoramic shots, having several rolls of paper all different sizes ect.
This canvas printing was quite new to me, having never seen anything like it. He did say you need about a 5 + m/pixle shot to enlargen. So if you are like me and not heard of this before and had some great photos to print out, perhaps you could ask around at your local framing shops as I would imagine there are a few getting about now.

Merry Christmas to you all as well.
Sounds really good. I would be really interested in getting that done. Where abouts can you get it done and I don't suppose you know a rough price range?
Cheers

Canvas printing has been around for quite some time.
Search this website for 'canvas' and you are sure to locate some other canvas printing services. There was one in QLD who were popular with forum members.
Also, if you want a convenient canvas print done, then
http://www.mymasterpieces.com.au will print and mount a canvas print for you and send it to your local Harvey Norman or Domayne store for your pickup. The results are quite good.

The ANU Art Schookl Photomedia Dept in Canberra will do them for you. I think their max size is 1.5m Not sure of their external prices. I am a student there (not photomedia).
Just don't turn up with a rush job near assessmet time

As far as cost goes, the rint I saw, framed, as in racked out and not in a bordered frame, was about 1.5 x 1.5 metres and he said it cost about $200.00 or there abouts.. I`m not sure if thats any good as its the first time I have seen it

1.5x1.5 for 200 sounds like a good deal to me, I'm sure it will change once he works out his ink costs.
a decent canvas is at least a quarter of that price for the size.
Full set of inks on ours costs over 600 bucks, and cost per square meter isn't even close to what the reps tell you when they are trying to get a sale.

The head of workshop for photomedia at the ANU is Martyn Jolly. Phone number is 02 6125 5815
I know they do work for outside clients (Part of the Unis having to self fund these days) and I believe they are better than normal external prices, but I am unsure of the details.
They also have continuing education classes. Details at

There are a number of the forum members both here and at
http://www.digitalslr.com.au forum who, like me have large format printers. Mine is an Epson 7800 which can print 24" wide. Ask around, but the retail printers seem to be charging at least $200/sq metre which makes me breath in a bit. At the moment I am only printing photographic paper at $46.00/sq metre for members.
