The implications of dropping a camera....

....not from a great height, as such. It fell off car seat onto car floor. When I then checked it, the Manual Focus switch was still on MF where it always is, except.

1. it's stuck in that Manual Focus setting and can't be moved, and
2. it has somehow switched to now Autofocusing on the MF setting

So now I can't manually focus with the camera.

Advice? (... and should this be "General Discussion", or should I just put it in "Absolute Beginners Questions"?)

Is that the MF switch on camera?

Sounds like a little misalignment from the outter pastic switch and the actual internal switch.

FYI : I've had the camera fixed (one working day turnaround, definitely underpromised and overdelivered on their 7-10 day standard working day turnaround). It was done by the Camera Service Centre in Castlereagh Street, Sydney. $180 to repair the Manual/Automatic switch assembly, incl. 6mths warranty. (And they cleaned the focus screen and sensor while they were at it - groovy!)

Can't judge on the price, but I can say that they quoted accurately, were friendly and professional, and they got the camera back to me very quickly, which was greatly appreciated

(Nonetheless, will try not to damage it next time! They're nice, but that doesn't mean I want to visit them)

That sounds like good service - just want you want. I have no idea about the cost either, but everything always costs more than you think so it probably isn't too bad.
