Clarity of Images

Hi,

I was reading a few entries on the blog page of photographer David duChemin.

David duChemin wrote:Cluttered images, ones that lack focus and clarity, are a result of lazy image making. Ask yourself; what elements can I cut out? and keep asking until you've cut out the one element you can't do without and still tell the story you want to tell, then go back one step.

I certainly have been a culprit and this sounds like some pretty good advice. I'm sure something like this has been said in one way or the other in these forums but I thought it probably is worth saying again.

The full blog is at, the entry is "on clarity":

And his web site can be found at:

for some great photojournalism and travel photography.

Cheers,

André

Followed a link from his website and found Steve McCurry's work, hadn't heard of him before but some of his stuff is really good.

Craig, you might not know steve mccurry but you'll probably recognise one of his well known pics of the afghan girl with the haunting green eyes. go to his gallery -> afghanistan -> pic 17 of 26.

Arh Yes, I know that one, National Geographic girl was on our fridge for a number of years. (My mum likes to keep images that she finds in magazines and newspapers on there to inspire her).

I'm fair lazy in the research department as I really haven't studied too many other photographer's body of work.

I did get for my Birthday a call, book documenting all the Pultzier Prize Winners, the stories behind the images are great, as are the images themselves.
