David Pogue, who is the technology journalist for the NY Times, has written a piece (I wouldn't call it a review exactly) on this lens. There are a couple of interesting points about whether having anti-shake mechanism in the lens or the camera is best.

Interesting, I'd always thought... cheaper to have it in the camera and working all the time, I didn't realise (because I didn't stop and think) that that solution would have to support a WIDE variety of lenses and focal lengths. So I can see his point that a tailored to each lens could be a better option, albeit an expensive one.

That said people have multiple bodies, and the VR travels with them to all of them, if the D200 had VR built in and the D70 didn't I don't think I'd even both keeping the D70. (if that makes sense).

Thom Hogan also makes some interesting points regarding VR - in his Nikkor 105 micro review - especially with regards to its usefulness on a macro lens (and closer focusing distances.

Whether on lens or on camera, I do believe VR/IS/AS technology will become a permanent photographic staple, in line with the advent of auto focus technology, to help photographers become lazier and reward us all for poor/sloppy technique - the next generation of photogs won't have to learn good handholding technique, just as this generation didn't have to learn proper focusing methods. It becomes all automatic...
