SB800 Flash with WP icon

I have 2 SB800 flash units, one under custom settings has "WP" as one of its icons. In the manual it says on page 70 "Zoom-head position setting if the built in wide-flash adapter is broken off accidentally (p. 117)

Page 117 states: If the wide-flash adapter is subjected to a strong impact while set on the flash head, it may be broken off in this case, visit your nearest authorized Nikon service center for repair.

The flash has not had any form of impact whatsoever, it works perfectly. The only noticeable difference between the 2 units is its minimum and maximum distance settings. On this flash the maximum is now 3.6m whereas the other flash is 6.3m

Does anyone know if this flash with "WP" has definitely formed a fault or am I likely to have just inputted a setting wrong that has shortened the distance (side by side I can not see that I have done this).

Cheers :D

WP would suggest that the wide-flash adaptor has been broken :?

It's not necessarily the adapter itself. There is a little switch inside that works out the position to the fresnel lens. If this is broken (or the wire to it has come adrift) then the effective result is the same. The flash thinks the adapter is broken. It still means a trip to Mr Nikon though.

Thanks Greg, it's still under warranty, so hopefully it will be covered.
