what would be best for shooting a bunch of people, say 5-10?

i have my 18-70 or 12-24. and also what about at night? only have the built in flash. will this be enough to do the job?

cheers..

Either will do the job but i'd be more inclined to use the 18-70. I would suggest a tripod and use the flash for a little bit of 'filling in.'

For a group that size, I would be using the 28-70, so go with your 18-70.

The 12-24 will not be flattering for the guests.

as killa says, both will / can do the job.

I'd also be tempted to use the 18-70 as the 12-24 can induce wide angle distortion if you're using it for portraiture type of shots - people can end up with boofy heads in a Andrew Denton Enough Rope style if you get some unintended distortion happening.

Both the 12-24 and 18-70 are relatively slow at around f/4, so neither really has a low light advantage over one another.

Try to use as much natural light and the pop-up flash for a bit of fill. But in your quest to capture natural light, be careful to keep the aperture stopped down enough so your DoF doesn't fall too much leaving some of the group out of focus. :D
