gear hire in Brisbane?

Postby griffo on Sun Feb 18, 2007 7:50 pm

Hey all,

I am shooting my first wedding for friends during March in Brisbane, and will be using my equipment as follows:

D70s
Nikkor 18-200mm F3.5-5.6 VR
Sigma 30mm F1.4
SB800

My question:
Where in Brisbane can I beg/borrow/hire a second d70s body to attach my second lens?

Most of the threads I've read here indicate that a fast prime for the indoor work during the wedding ceremony (in the story bridge hotel) and natural light will suffice, but I also want to be able to shoot off candids from further back with the length of the zoom lens and bounce flash.

I'm also considering buying a monopod and ball head for a little extra stability for low light shots late in the afternoon around the bridge - any suggestions under the $200 mark?

Any help / suggestion would be greatly appreciated

Cheers
Griffo

There is a guy advertising in the weekend shopper (Brisbane Courier Mail)a Manfrotto tripod and quck release head for $90.

If you don't have a copy I may still have mine.

I rang him, he is away at the moment.

The colour is silver so it was of no interest to me, I only buy black.

Thanks Tony,

I already have a manfrotto tripod - black also. I was after a monopod for the portability factor, and I tend to shoot a bit of motorsport as well.

Can't help you with the body rental question, but the monopod I can :D

A very good monopod setup can be had for $200. I'd recommend:

* Manfrotto 681B Pro Monopod - $101 at Vanbar.com.au
* Manfrotto 234RC Monopod head with Quickrelease - $60 at vanbar

This is a combo you'll often see pro sports shooters using. Some omit the head altogether if they're using a big tele with a lens foot. I've got a similar set up and it handles a D2H + 80-400 + SB800 with ease.

With the lenses you've listed, I'd go for the head with quick release plate as working with the D70 body screwed directly to the 'pod will be inconvenient.

Teds usually stock both of these in their better stores. I purchased my 681 for $98, so the price isn't bad either.

thanks Daniel,

I've found a Manfrotto 680B and 486RC2 for under $200 at Rainer's in Brisbane City.

I appreciate the input, it has confirmed my thoughts about the combo.
