I used to use a Palm PDA a *lot*, but that's fallen by the way-side (mainly because it's an old TRG Pro and synchronising with my Macs via a serial port isn't convenient).
On the PDA I had:

• a DOF calculator (not something I use a lot, but sometimes useful to have on-hand)
• Tide-tool, a *very* useful program when you're near the coast

I see there's been some relatively recent discussion of similar things, including mention of the Ephemeris program (only for PocketPC) to show sunrise/sunset/etc information.

Having just transferred my CDMA mobile (a Nokia 6225) over to a "NextG" Motorola RAZR MaxxV6, I've been having a play with the new toy. So far I've got it synchronising with my Mac, any photos I take on the phone are imported into my standard image library (which I then manage with iView and Lightroom) and any voice recordings I make are imported into my standard audio library (managed with iView). I'm not worrying about video yet, but I'll probably add downloading of those at some point. Unfortunately calendar synching from iCal to the phone isn't working (although the other way does) but I presume that will come with time.
As I'm unlikely to use my Palm again and the screen on the RAZR is much bigger than the old Nokia, I started wondering what photography-related Java applications were around. So far I've found and installed these Java apps:

• DOFCalc
• Compass

The compass function is cute. Although it's not something I'm likely to use often (I sometimes have a GPS with me, and in any case I can do basic navigation in my head just knowing the time) it doesn't take up much space in the phone.
An application like Ephemeris which will predict phases of the moon would be really nice (sometimes I don't have the GPS with me) but I haven't found one yet. Similarly a tides app would be nice.

Have you found any useful Java apps for your phone?

 BTW, I just realised that Compass will display moon phase, moon & sun rise and set times, and civil/nautical/astro twilight times. Only for the current location and date, but that's better than nothing!

I once made a photographic calculation tool for one of my calculators and then a phone. I'll have to dig it up as my teacher said it was useful. I don't even remember what it was for.
