SB-600 or SB-800?

Hi all,
I am after a flash and I am not sure whether I should splurge on the SB-800 or whether the SB-600 would be adequate for my needs. I really know nothing at all about them and am on a steep learning curve with my photography. The SB-600 is more in my price range, but would I miss things that are on the 800 eventually? Would I be better off spending a bit more now to get more features? I mostly take pictures of my kids, some indoor sport and various other "everyday" situations at the moment whilst experimenting with the settings. :?
Thanks,
Marvin

Hi Marvin,

I think the short answer is yes, you'll end up missing some stuff from the 800, and rgretting the decision to buy the 600.

have a look at a couple of the other threads on exactly this topic; here is one ... http://forum.d70users.com/admin/index.p ... e0c98acef8

I don't know... I bought the SB800 for its compatibility with my old FM1 (manual everything camera), and I've only used Auto aperture mode for a few pics. The rest have been in iTTL on the D70, which the 600 would have comfortably handled too.

Other things like repeating flash mode I've only ever used for experimentation. Off camera wireless flash use is a breeze on the 800, and I assume the same on the 600 too.

Marvin,
Go for the SB-800, $450.00 - $550.00 grey improt with International Warranty, or buy from local stock, price is greater than $700.00.

Price difference in between the SB800-600 is very minor point but you'll get the great features in SB800, see what Raydar got and he's playing his toys & posted his photos today.

You won't regret

As Birddod said

Go the 800  :D
The extra reach you get with the 800 is worth the money if you shoot sports 8)

Cheers

But there's the fallacy - you don't get any extra reach. Both have a max illumination range of 20 metres.

Good point :D
But the intensity of the light at that distance is higher with the 800 I think ?

Cheers

Ray, If there was greater intensity, there'd also be greater reach. :)

But with the 600 you miss out on the commander mode, which for me would be a dealbreaker. Not having it would cut down my creativity options. Whether I use them is another matter, but not having them means that there's a path that's permanently closed off to me.

If I want restrictions imposed upon me I'll buy a 300D. :)

Ok guys! Thanks! I guess I'll save a bit more and go for the SB-800. Also, my apologies - I should have looked around a bit harder before posting!
