SC-29 question

Hey Guys,
Finally got a chance to sit down and play with my sb800 - i've had it for ages but have never understood it...... simple things like figuring out that the red focus beams don't work when its on continual focus mode.... anyway... I was playing around with shooting with the sb800 wireless and for some reason the sb800 wants to go back to manual mode where it expects the user to input the focal length etc... I guess this is because there's no continual communication between the d200 and the flash.... so my question is does the SC-29 allow me to shoot with the sb800 off the camera and retain the automatic features it had when it was on the camera? (ie not having to key in the focal length) hope this is making sense....
cheers
