Hi

I take lots of indoor photos of my kids and have a D70/SB800 and am never really happy with the results I am getting. It always seems to be a compromise between ISO, and underexposure. I have tried bounce photography, direct, spot, matrix meterering, 50/1.4 and not consistently hitting it right.

I guess I have several questions to ask?

Firstly, are people using any specific settings and getting good consistent results?

Thinking of buying a Canon 30D so push higher, cleaner ISO photos. Don't get me wrong, I don't think Nikon or Canon are better, just better suited to ones needs. The other thing that appeals to me is shooting direct in JPEG (as I HATE PP) and I have to shoot in RAW to get anything good with the D70.

Any comments especially from Canon users (esp if ex Nikon users) would be most appreciated.

can you post examples of what you do like, and what you dont like about what you are getting?

have you moved the flash off camera, just a little, say via a SC28/SC29? On a braket?

Any samples with EXIF we can look at?

It is hard to point out suggestion of specific settings for indoors. All indoor areas are different and needs different adjustments.

I had no problem shooting a D70 + SB800 indoor with very poor/dim lights.

Very good "straight from camera" results are achievable with the D70, you just have to tweak the settings, that`s all.

You need to learn the camera settings inside out and really get in there and tweak those custom settings eg: Col space, contrast, saturation, sharpness, maybe add a custom curve etc.
