I was thinking about a birthday register for the forum? I.e put your date of birth (year optional) so ppl here know when it's your bday? I think they SHOULD be celebrated and would add to the community feel of this awesome forum. Be keen to know what others think?

Terrific idea, a lot of people may be apprehensive about the year part but I think it might help towards keeping that "family" feeling on this forum, which is one thing that seperates this forum from the others... It would have to be voluntary...

My question is: how do we do it? and who's handling these database same as reminder or announcing birthday of person(s)?
More works for Gary and Leigh though when forum has number of members as 1k or 2k, some of our members are not frequently log on to.
Great ideas but it's complicated.

Sorry to hijack this thread, my say:
As few request from our members, from Saturday 5th Feb. I'll have the log book at any Sydney meets, members who attend the meets, in or outdoor have to sign in as record of attending, and we will keep this book as our D70User logbook of the meets, details of training, workshops, discussion also will be recorded into the same days of the meet, we will appoint a minute taker or secretary on each meet.
And this logbook as property of the D70Users forum same as the two banners which were display at Bobbin Head picnic.

I am not a person who see's anything in celebrating birthday's or the like.

I am to wake up each morning and make the most of that day.

We still have a couple of others that you needed to download for me to install.

Given that DOB seems to be an increasingly used identifier, I tend to the view that it is better kept undisclosed - or at least not having it disclosed in any sort of organised manner.

If the front page said that Fred Blogs is 48 today, there are people in this crazy world who might see that as an opportunity for mischief (identity theft). I know we have a bunch of pseudo nom-de-forums, but you would not need to be Austin Powers to gather real info.

Am I paranoid? - sure. Are there benefits which make the risk (however slight) worthwhile? - don't see 'em.

I think a birthday mention in a thread is less of a problem.

Well, the benefit of the hacks I've found (got 'em all the moment I saw this thread, Dad) is that you don't have to put your DOB in... you can just ignore it... you can put your paranoia... well... at least this one... to rest.

My beliefs:

I believe that birthdays are a family and also a friends thing.
I would like to suggest that it is not a forum thing as such.
Now I'm not saying that forum and friend don't go together.
I guess I grew up with the belief that birthday is a personal and inner circle thing.
I wouldn'y really like to advertise it to the forum.
Now if somebody would disclose the birthdates of the founders and highly regarded members of this forum I would definitly send a birthday greeting.

DOB for the sake of a happy birthday message is not important to me, but I wouldn't mind seeing an age bracket and a male/female tick box in the member's profile.

That's a module I did grab this morning after reading this thread: a statistics module that lets you see the average age of people on the board,

For sure, I don't really celebrate my b'day, but always enjoy wishing others all the best on their day.

If I got loads of stuff on my b-day as a result of it being posted, then yes absolutly post my bday, however we just missed it (jan 22).
