V8's in Perth this weekend! So I was wondering who else if anyone was attending the V8's at wanneroo raceway? I should be there early Friday morning (something like 6:45 - 7am) as I am trying to get some sunrise photos aswell! Anybody with experience at shooting the V8's? Seeing as this will be my first time I would like some hints/tips as what to do, where to stand! I will be using my 80-400vr for the majority of shots and I think the weather is going to be HOT!!! So I should have some great sunlight! Should I shoot in Aperture mode, Shutter Priority or maybe have a go at manual? Any help/info would be greatly appreciated!

Not sure what the metering and exposure is like on the D80, but with the D70 (haven't done it with the D200 yet). I have moved to center weighted metering (spot on occasion), shutter priority, depending on what sort of shot I was after and also where the is. Also set the lens to focus from 2.5m - infinity and passive VR mode for panning shots.
Shutter speeds can vary from 1/80th up to 1/320 (and above) depending on speed of the subject, whether you are panning and how close to the subject you are. Shooting race-cars is fun, I've not had the op to take any photos of the V8's for years (last time was with a Minolta film camera). Have fun!
I think I will use Friday to experiment with settings and see what works! I would really love some exhaust fire shots! But I will have to wait and see what happens and how lucky I am! I went to the Rally Aus here in Perth 2yrs ago and got some good shots with my D70s (before it was stolen!) So I am hoping I have the same luck with no/less dust than the Rally!
