How'd ya found out about this forum?

Mine was 1/2 way between dpreview and other... I voted other...

Some one on dpreview emailed me the link!

I was a lurker on dpreview forums and Gary posted the suggestion to start this site up. Been here ever since. I didn't like the dp forums much, too many trolls and measureabators.

Yes and on a technical note i just do not like the dpreview interface... phpBB is much easier to use

I like to camp here coz I can see more peaceful corner to visit and I also met few members with lot of friendship in them and would like to contribute to our local community as a circle in photography.

Wow, so in spite of all these "problems" you still bought?
The D70's had quite a slagging online since its release, I presume mostly from non-owners. Moire, fast shutter colour shift, noise, built quality, etc etc. I'm surprised any potential buyer reading up on all this would still be interested in buying it.

That's a very interesting, and quite valid, comment, that (to me) highlights one of the values of the internet.

30 odd years ago(or thereabouts) when I first bought into Nikons, there was no such thing as the internet.

As a purchaser, you had to rely upon the opinions of those two or three other photographers you might have known, plus magazine reviews, plus the sales people in the stores, for information about your purchases.

The information available was quite limited, and often biased.

Today there's a wealth of information available - perhaps too much - but much of it remains biased.

I think that reviews tend to take a very detailed look at cameras - the guy on dpreview is a good example. However, if you read several reviews (and I was primarily deciding between the D70 or the Canon EOS 300D) it helps to be able to assess based on what issues are important to you.

Reviews will highlight flaws as well as good points, but I reckon I made totally the right choice based on what I read.

And as Gary said, this highlights the value of the internet. But you also need to be critical in your approach to the information, and it helps with reviews to see plenty of others by the same reviewer.

The process resulted in me getting the D70, plus it was a whole bunch of fun!
