G'day.
Well i'm thinking of entering some images in a Drag Racing photo comp.
Rules are they want printable quality jpg's (1800x1200 min @ 500k).
Because i shoot RAW, do you think it's ok to to adjust levels/curves etc then save as JPG?
My point is, will fixing my images by using levels/curves be considered 'altering' the photo?
Not sure about cropping either
Thanks...

I personally don't consider adjustments relating to exposure, white balance and crop as "edits". All of these things can (and usually are) done by professional photo labs when processing film - no difference here IMHO.
To be sure, check with the people running the competition.

I think it's perfectly fine to tweak your photo accordingly to suit your choices..
If it's the comp im thinking of, i'll have a hard time trying to get shortlisted in
Good luck James, you have plenty of winners!!

There's nothing wrong with doing whatever adjustments you please, yes including dodging and burning areas unless the competition specifies otherwise.

Hey, Piro, glad to hear
It is the digital age after all.. And i will admit, i had to google "dodging and burning" to remember what it is

Yeap thats the one
I'll enter a few, but i think i'll be shunted into the pro catergory, since i've had media accred at events, but not all events i'll post images from
I didnt spot any rules about editing at all, did i miss something?

Yeah i'm sure you'll be stacked against the pro's, but you got the goods
I fit snugly into the amateur slot, seeing as i haven't made a dime..
Yeah, i can't see anything about editing etc...Can't even find an email to contact them and ask?

Doesn't say anything about it does it? I know for CAMS accreditation (yes not drag racing I know, but they are very strict about what can be submitted) say that anything to do with exposure, white balance and minor sharpening is ok.
Looks like a pretty good competition, time to get out to Willowbank I think!

Mightn't that make entry to the competition somewhat problematic?

They have a form you fill out and upload the photo with, so i presume you get a submission confirmation email once you submit an entry

This is from the site:
"The competition will begin during this year's 41st Australian Nationals at Willowbank Raceway on September 15-17, 2006 and will conclude following the Nitro Champs at Western Sydney International Dragway on May 5/6, 2007"
Would an image from a 'test & tune' be ok you think?

I would have thought so. That is what I was going to try and do.

yeah i'm hoping it's ok, i'm sure they would have been more specific if it wasn't allowed.
I say we 'go for gold' then

Yeah no email confirmation either. I've sent in 1 image already, 4 more to go. My plan is 3 random shots and 2 of their car, if i can get a good one at the Nitro's...
