well,
lightning strike is quite efficient in frying telecommunications equipment and computers unless they are protected.

I see a pattern emerging here....
Everytime dad's away, a little voice in the head keeps saying " Unplug, unplug, unplug"
It's time for Junior to go on holidays while senior stays home

I like unplugging things, it seems.
You wouldn't want me by your death bed, now would you?

I think it was mostly sheet lighting today, Steve.
Mind you, we're getting some pretty impressive thunder out Bondi-way at the moment.

I was out in the backyard and I couldn't see any direct lightning bits either - all i saw was the result of God firing his SB800. There were flashes of sky brightened up significantly, but no lightning bolt to be seen directly.

Saw some really nice clouds lit up by sheet stuff on the drive home from Newcastle, as well as a few great bolts. Unfortunately I was driving and on a major highway, so no way or spot to stop and grab some shots.

I spent about an hour trying to get a shot but as everyone has noticed it was very hard to catch anything, reckon I need to start chsing these storms but have no idea how to track which direction to go in.

Amazing lightning show out west here last night. Was not game enough to go outside and take any photos as there were some really close strikes!

Regarding unplugging your 'puter, it seems that if you have broadband cable this is a very efficient lightning conductor. My cable
modem and my G4's ethernet port got fried last time we had a lightning storm like this in Bondi: luckily the damage didn't go any further.
preventative measurething to do in this case is to unplug the cable
modem from the cable, and I've done this ever since. Even if the computer is turned off a good strike can still do some damage.
Forewarned is forearmed, folks...
