I was talking to a friend who shoots professionally and he was asking around real-estate companies if they wanted HOUSE shots.
most of them straight out asked if he had a 'pole cam' and as he didnt they wrote him off.
Basically it is a telescoping pole they stick their camera on and take elevated shots from.
http://www.durackimages.com.au/index.html is one company with example shots on their website who do this. (pole pictures)
I wonder where they get their equipment from.

Opentoview.com.au use this system about $20k
They have the name of the system on a sticker on their vans (I think it can be seen on their web site) works well.

How about a monopod, with a radio trigger? I love the results I get with that.
Radio triggers go for 100m, so maybe I could hold up a 10m pole and shoot. Great at 10-12mm

It's fairly simple to make your own using PVC pipe.
I've been using this and a radio controlled helicopter and plane with a video downlink for all of my Aerial shots.

Mainly used for forensic data collection followig fires etc.

Rig your camera to a flag pole and rise the 'flag' then radio control it?
Or even simpler design, those 'pulling ladders' where the electricians use to fix light poles?

The <strike>bullshit</strike>wonders of marketing, eh?
Adam,
Good work on getting this running, and a CP8400 would be a great platform from which to do the shooting - small, light, high-ish resolution and certainly good enough for typical real estate applications.
Just thinking aloud here ... would it be accurate to call these "aerial" views though? Elevated: absolutely, but I don't know about "aerial" ... I guess that all comes back to interpretation ...

Would this be an application for the wireless grips, like the WT-3 (D200) or WT-2 (D2..)?
I understand from these, you can operate focus/exposure/shutter functions from a PC.
THey are less than $1k, and I "think" come with PC interface to operate camera.
Add a pole system to it, and you could be away for just a few k.
Heck, you would buy a trailer mounted scissor lift, or cherry picker and then "send yourself up the pole"... (agree, elevated, but not aerial)

I guess kiwi engineers run with tighter tolerences, but that mast looks like its designed to justify the franchise cost, not to support the camera...
